Dear Friends,

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!  The Most Important District Meeting of the Year Is Coming Up Soon!

This year we are going to combine our District Pic Nic and our Pre-Charge Conference Preachers' Meeting into a one day event.  On Saturday, August 21, 2010, we will gather at 10:00 AM at the Headland United Methodist Church in Headland, Alabama, and every pastor in the Dothan District is expected to be present.  We will welcome the newcomers into our district, and we will all get an update about our 2010 Charge Conferences.  Pastors' Spouses are not only invited but encouraged to attend, and the spouses will meet with Lynn Epps while the pastors meet.  Your children are invited as well.

More good news for this year is that you do not have to bring any food!  Dwight Deal, our pastor at New Brockton, is going to cook some barbecue for us and help with the fixins, so the district is providing all the food.  We plan to eat at Noon.

Please make every effort to be present.  Put this date on your calendar right now!  If you have a particular time that you want your charge conference to be scheduled, call me right away with that request, because once the schedule is set, it is difficult to adjust.

I have every expectation that this conference year is going to be a great one for all of the Dothan District, and it is a joy and a privilege to work with all of you and your churches.  I am really looking forward to our gathering on August 21.

Grace & peace,

Walker Epps

A word from Bishop Paul L. Leeland: 5/5/2010

Our hearts are greatly saddened for those who lost their lives and for those who sustained injuries in the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon rig in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20.  We continue to pray for their families and friends.

My prayers are also with all those who live, work, and enjoy recreation in our conference’s beautiful coastal areas.  As we live with the uncertainty of how the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico will affect our environment, economy, communities, and personal lives we are sustained by the knowledge that God is with us.

Clergy and churches in the affected areas are already strategizing on how to best be a witness for Christ in a time of disaster.  Our conference Disaster Response Coordinator Amelia Fletcher is working with a variety of local, state, volunteer, and government agencies to prepare a compassionate response to what will most likely be a significant need.
